Arsenal icon Ian Wright has warned that if Marcus Rashford can't find "the required consistency" at Barcelona, then inconsistency will dog his career.

The 27-year-old swapped United for Barcelona on loan earlier this summer, and ex-Crystal Palace striker Wright has urged him to take his chance at the Blaugrana. While he defended the England international when it came to critics attacking his off-field endeavours, he stressed that Rashford must bring the best out of himself each week, else his career could peter out.

He said on the latest episode of Stick to Football: "I was very surprised to hear certain people talking about him [Rashford]. Not only because I want it to happen for him, but this move for him, if it doesn’t happen for you now, it’s never going to happen. If you can’t realise that in yourself, you’re a Barcelona player, unbelievable. If the penny doesn’t drop now at Barcelona, you can’t find consistency there, it’s never going to happen. Listening to people talk about his material things it’s pathetic. Like his gear, his cars, his clothes, when I listen to people critiquing him, it’s pathetic."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rashford's United career appears to be over after falling out of favour with head coach Ruben Amorim. His fortunes have not been harmed a great deal, though, as he has secured a stunning switch to Barcelona, one of the world's biggest clubs. But if he wants to join them permanently, the Red Devils loanee may have to take his game to new heights, or at least deliver on a consistent basis.

Rashford, who made his Barcelona debut off the bench against Mallorca last weekend, will hope to get more time for Hansi Flick's team when the current La Liga champions travel to Levante on Saturday night.
